Jasna Meyer, Founder and MD
Born in Maribor, Slovenia, Jasna Meyer is a London-based musician and music teacher, founder of Gallus Aeternus and passionate advocate for choral music and music education.
Jasna's devotion to choral music started in the summer of 1993 when she succesfully auditioned for a Slovenian girls' choir Carmina Slovenica, with whom she travelled the world (Argentina, Chile, Venezuela, France, Spain, Austria, Italy, Denmark, Finland, USA, Canada, China), experienced winning national and world choral competitions (International Choral Competition Golden Gate, California; International Choral Competition in Des Moines, Iowa) and got to experience and participate as an assistant musical director, choral singer, accompanist and choral coach in a variety of small- and large-scale projects (Penderecki's Luke's Passion, Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, Bach's Magnificat, Mahler's 8th Symphony), performing on the world's larges stages (Teatro Teresa Careno in Caracas, Venezuela, Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, Argentina, St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican).
Jasna's previous and current choral engagements have included London Philharmonic Choir, Evoke, Invicta Upper Voices, Invicta, Marco Antonio Ingegneri Choir, Ljubljanski Madrigalisti, as well as Thameside Harmony Chorus, leading it at the 500th Anniversary of Hampton Court Palace performance.
Special focus of Jasna's choral endeavours has always been placed on Slovenian folk and choral music of Slovenian composers. With Slovenia thousands of miles away, Gallus Aeternus has become a cradle for such music-making.
During her studies at Maribor Conservatory of Music and Ballet (Piano, Music Theory, Composition), Jasna received three golden plaques at the TEMSIG national competition for young musicians of Slovenia (Category Solfeggio), and subsequently the Roman Klasinc Award for exceptional and promising young musicians.
She continues to attend choral conducting masterclasses with relevant professionals in the field (Ragnar Rasmussen, Patrick Russill, David Hill, John Dickens, Amy Bebbington, Jo Mcnally, Martin Seymour, Sally McLean).
Jasna holds an Ma in Music Education (Kingston University, London) and is currently undertaking a PGCE Music (Secondary) at the UCL in London.
